Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Goodtake collects, why, who processes it, how long we keep it and what you can do about it. It covers the Goodtake iPhone app and this website.
1. Who we are
Goodtake is operated by Stackr Holdings LLC, a New Jersey limited liability company ("we", "us"). Stackr Holdings LLC is the data controller for personal information processed through the Goodtake app and getgoodtake.app.
Privacy questions and requests: support@getgoodtake.app.
2. The short version
- Your videos, recordings and projects stay on your iPhone and in your Photos library. The video itself never leaves your phone.
- To turn your speech into text, Goodtake sends the sound of your clips, without the picture, through our server to a speech-to-text provider. We do not store the audio.
- To pick your best takes, Goodtake sends the words you said, their timing and any note you write through our server to an AI model provider. We do not keep them after answering, unless you choose to send us an edit.
- There is no sign up. Goodtake creates an anonymous account for your install. We never ask for your name, email or phone number.
- Goodtake creates that account, and sends audio, words, analytics or crash reports, only after you tap Agree and Continue on the first screen.
- We do not sell your data, show ads, or track you across other companies' apps and websites.
- You can delete your data in the app or by email at any time (section 9).
3. What stays on your iPhone
These stay on your iPhone and in your Photos library, and we never receive them:
- the videos you record or import, and the projects you make from them
- your cuts, captions, text, stickers, music, settings and Spelling Fixes
- the full analysis Goodtake makes of your clips, such as the map of pauses and where your face is in each frame (section 4 lists the summary numbers, like word timings and pause lengths, that are sent to pick takes)
- a copy of the last request Goodtake sent to pick takes, which you can read in the app's privacy settings
Recordings you make in Goodtake are saved to your Photos library, in a Goodtake album when you allow full access. Finished videos are saved to Photos when you export. If you use iCloud Photos, Apple stores them under Apple's terms. If you pick clips without giving Goodtake access to Photos, or a recording cannot be saved to Photos, Goodtake keeps a copy inside the app. Deleting the app removes it.
Goodtake looks at your video on your iPhone to find speech, pauses and where your face is, so it can cut your video and center zooms on you. It does not identify anyone and does not create face or voice prints.
4. What we receive
- Anonymous account and device details
- A random account ID and device ID. A key from Apple's App Attest, which shows that requests come from a genuine copy of Goodtake on a real Apple device. Your app version, iOS version and iPhone model. A scrambled form of your network address that changes every day, used only to limit abuse. No name, email or phone number. Goodtake creates the account when you tap Agree and Continue on the first screen.
- Audio from your clips
- When Goodtake turns speech into text, it sends the sound of each clip in short pieces of compressed audio (up to two minutes each), with the language and up to 30 spelling hints taken from your Spelling Fixes and from names in your teleprompter script. It never sends the picture. Our server passes the audio to a speech-to-text provider and returns the words to your iPhone. We do not store or log the audio or the words.
- Words for picking takes
- The words you said, split into phrases, with their timing, pause lengths, speaking speed, how sure the speech recognition was, loudness and how much of each phrase you face the camera. Also your teleprompter script if you used one, any note or quick option you chose before the edit, the language, clip lengths and a project ID. Our server sends this to an AI model provider and returns which takes to use. We do not keep the words, script or note after answering.
- Usage records
- When you used a server feature, how much footage it covered, how many phrases or words it had, which service handled it, how long it took, whether it worked and what it cost us. No words, audio or video. We use these to apply limits and credits, prevent abuse and fix problems.
- Security records
- Our sign-in service records the IP address and app details of your session to keep accounts secure. Our hosting provider keeps short technical logs, which can include IP addresses, for up to 7 days.
- Analytics and crash reports
- Which features you use, how long steps take, whether an edit worked, and crash and error reports with your app version, iOS version, iPhone model, screen size, language and time zone settings, and whether you are on Wi-Fi or cellular. They are linked to a random install ID and to your anonymous account ID. Our analytics provider may estimate your city or country from your IP address. These reports never include your video, audio, words, script, notes, project titles, file names or screenshots. They start after you tap Agree and Continue and are on by default. You can turn them off in Settings > Privacy > Share Crash Reports and Usage, and nothing more is collected after that.
- Send This Edit (optional)
- Only if you choose Send This Edit for a project. We receive the words from that project's clips, your notes and script, the takes Goodtake picked and the changes you made, including spelling corrections to captions. We use it to review and improve how Goodtake picks takes. No video or audio is sent.
- Purchases
- Apple processes every payment. When you buy a plan, we and our subscription provider receive your plan, its status and dates, and transaction IDs from Apple that do not include your name or email, so we can give you your credits and features. We never see your card or your Apple Account details.
- Messages to us
- If you email us, including through Send Feedback or Report a Problem in the app, we receive your email address and what you write or attach. Report a Problem attaches a short text file with your app version, iOS version, the phone's temperature state, how many projects and clips you have and the last saving error, if any. It never includes your videos, words or project titles.
What we do not collect
We do not collect your name, email address (unless you write to us), phone number, contacts, precise location, health data, payment card numbers or advertising ID. Goodtake does not ask for App Tracking Transparency because it does not track you.
Permissions the app asks for
- Camera and microphone to record your videos and your voice.
- Photos to open your clips where they are and to save your recordings and finished videos. You can allow access to only some photos.
- Notifications to tell you when a video is ready. These come from the app on your iPhone. We do not send push notifications from our servers.
- Speech recognition, only if iOS asks for it, for the teleprompter, which follows your voice with Apple's speech engine on your iPhone.
You can change any of these in the iOS Settings app.
5. Speech-to-text and AI providers
To provide our features, we share the audio of your videos, and information derived from it such as the words you said, with speech-to-text and AI model providers that process it on our behalf. We never share the video itself.
- Speech-to-text. Every video you edit is transcribed this way, except the sample video and edits made with Cut Pauses Only, which send no audio. If our main speech-to-text provider is unavailable, a backup provider does the job.
- Picking takes. The words, timing and notes described in section 4 go to an AI model provider, which answers with the takes to use.
These providers process the data to provide their service to us. We tell our main speech-to-text provider not to use your audio to improve its models, and our AI model provider's business terms do not allow it to train its models on what we send. Under their own terms, providers may keep data for a limited time, for example to monitor for abuse. We describe providers by category here; email us for the current list.
Our server does not keep the audio, the words or your notes after it answers. The one exception is Send This Edit, which you choose yourself.
Your agreement. Before Goodtake sends any audio or words, its first screen tells you what is sent and to which kinds of providers, and asks you to tap Agree and Continue. Until you do, Goodtake sends nothing to these providers. By tapping it you agree to our Terms of Use and this policy. Sending audio and words to these providers is how Goodtake edits a video. If you no longer want this, stop using Goodtake to edit videos and delete your data as described in section 9.
6. How we use data
- To run Goodtake: turn speech into text, cut pauses and filler words, pick takes, make captions and export your video.
- To manage plans and credits, apply fair limits and stop fraud and abuse.
- To keep Goodtake working and safe: find and fix bugs, monitor our servers and answer support requests.
- To improve Goodtake, using analytics and the edits you choose to send.
- To follow the law and protect our rights.
We do not sell your data, use it for advertising or build advertising profiles.
8. How long we keep data
- Videos, recordings and projects
- On your iPhone and in Photos.
- Until you delete them. Deleting the app removes its own copies; items in Photos stay until you delete them there.
- Audio sent for speech-to-text
- Passes through our server to the provider.
- Not stored by us.
- Words, script and notes sent to pick takes
- Pass through our server to the provider.
- Not kept by us after we answer.
- Edit answers
- Which takes to use, stored as numbers that point to phrases. No words.
- 72 hours, so a repeated request gets the same answer.
- Transcription records
- Time, length in seconds, status and which service answered. No audio or words.
- 30 days.
- Request logs
- Timing, size, error codes and app version. No content.
- 30 days.
- Anonymous account, device and usage records
- Including the daily scrambled network address on your device record.
- While your account exists. An account that never used a server feature is deleted after 30 days.
- Session security records
- IP address and app details of your sign-in session.
- While the session or your account exists.
- Hosting technical logs
- Can include IP addresses.
- Up to 7 days.
- Send This Edit
- Only edits you chose to send.
- Up to 180 days, or until you delete your data.
- Analytics and crash reports

- For the retention period set in each provider's account, then deleted.
- Database backups
- Daily copies of our database, kept for recovery.
- 7 days.
- Purchase records
- Held by Apple and our subscription provider.
- As long as needed for your plan, accounting and the law.
- Support emails
- In our inbox.
- Up to 2 years after your request is closed.
9. Deleting your data
- On your iPhone. Delete a project in Goodtake, delete items in Photos, or delete the app.
- In the app. Settings > Privacy > Delete My Data on Our Server. This deletes your anonymous account and everything linked to it on our servers right away: device records, usage records, session records, transcription records, edit answers and any edits you sent. Request logs stay for up to 30 days with the link to you removed. Copies in our daily database backups are gone within 7 days.
- By email. Write to support@getgoodtake.app. If you still have the app, deleting in the app is quickest. If you no longer have it, we usually cannot tell which anonymous account was yours. Email us anyway: we delete any account we can match, and records we cannot match carry no name, email or phone number. We reply within 30 days.
- At our providers. On request we ask our analytics and crash reporting providers to delete reports linked to your IDs. Copies our speech-to-text and AI providers keep for abuse monitoring expire on their own schedule. Apple keeps its own records under its terms.
Deleting your data does not cancel a subscription; cancel it in your Apple Account settings. If you use Goodtake again after deleting, it creates a new anonymous account. We may keep a minimal record when the law requires it or when we need it to prevent fraud, such as repeated free trials. More detail: Delete your account.
10. Your rights
We offer these rights to everyone, wherever you live, as far as we can match a request to your anonymous account. You can ask us to tell you what we hold about you, give you a copy, correct it, delete it, limit how we use it, or stop using it for a purpose you object to. You can withdraw a consent at any time. Requests are free: email support@getgoodtake.app.
EEA, UK and Switzerland
Our legal bases are:
- performing our contract with you: running the features you use, including speech-to-text and picking takes
- our legitimate interests: security, preventing abuse, analytics and crash reports, and improving Goodtake
- your consent: Send This Edit and the permissions the app asks for
- legal obligations
You can complain to your local data protection authority, in the UK the Information Commissioner's Office. We would like the chance to help first.
California and other US states
You can ask to know, delete and correct the personal information we hold about you, and you will not be treated worse for asking. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of. We do not use sensitive personal information to infer things about you. In the last 12 months we collected these categories, for the purposes in section 6, and disclosed them only to the service providers in section 7:
- identifiers: anonymous account, device and install IDs, IP addresses in security records, and your email address if you write to us
- internet or app activity: usage records, analytics and crash reports
- audio information: the sound of your clips, for speech-to-text
- approximate location: city or country estimated from IP address by our analytics provider
- commercial information: your plan and purchase status, when you buy a plan
- other content you give us: words, scripts, notes, edits you send and messages
An authorized agent can make a request for you with your written permission. If we decline a request, you can appeal by replying to our answer. We treat a Global Privacy Control signal as a request not to sell or share, which we do not do anyway.
11. Where data is processed
We are based in the United States. Our database is hosted in the United States (US East). Our server code may run in a data center near you before data reaches the United States. Our providers process data in the United States and may use other countries where they operate. If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, your data is transferred to countries whose laws differ from yours; where the law requires it, we rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses and the UK addendum. You can ask us for a copy.
12. Security
Data travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). The app keeps your session in the iOS Keychain. Our database cannot be reached from the app directly; only our server code can read it. We use Apple's App Attest to check that requests come from a genuine copy of the app, and installs that cannot be checked get lower limits. Access to our systems is limited to people who need it. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects you, we will tell you as the law requires.
13. Children
Goodtake is not for children under 13, or under the minimum age in your country if that is higher. We do not knowingly collect data from them. If you think a child has used Goodtake, email support@getgoodtake.app and we will delete the data.
14. This website
getgoodtake.app does not use cookies, analytics or advertising tags. Our website host processes your IP address and browser details to deliver pages and protect the site, and keeps them in short-lived logs.
15. Changes to this policy
We may change this policy. If a change matters, we will tell you in the app or on this website before it takes effect. The date at the top shows the last change. Earlier versions are available on request.
